False alarm reduction tips

Chubb Security Systems recognizes that unnecessary police dispatches present serious concerns for all security subscribers. False dispatches represent a potential threat to the effectiveness of alarm systems in reducing crime where police response is required.

Chubb consistently investigates improved practices to minimize unnecessary dispatches. Our systems have been designed with alarm protection in mind to reduce and prevent user or system errors.

Please be sure to follow the 7 simple steps below to assist us in reducing false alarm dispatches.

  • Instruct all authorized users, both permanent and temporary, on the proper operation of your alarm system. Call the Chubb Monitoring Centre and let us know you are testing your system and provide all users with hands-on practice.
  • Ensure that each system user has a confidential password or pass number for proper identification when communicating with the Chubb Monitoring Centre. Make sure that you keep your dispatch instructions current, and that you notify Chubb in writing of any change to authorized users and contacts.
  • A Cancel Code allows you to disarm your system with a confidential code immediately after setting off a false alarm. If your system is programmed with a Cancel Code, use it to cancel false burglary alarms with the Monitoring Centre. The alarm system will automatically signal the Chubb Monitoring Centre that an authorized user is at the premises, the alarm is false and no further action is required. If you are unsure if your system is programmed to accept a Cancel Code, please call the Monitoring Centre. (Note: The Monitoring Centre will dispatch the authorities on fire, medical and duress signals even if a Cancel Code is received).
  • If your system does not have a Cancel Code, instruct all authorized users to call the Chubb Monitoring Centre immediately if they have set off a false alarm. All authorized users must provide the Chubb Monitoring Centre with their name and confidential password or pass number to cancel an alarm.
  • Test your alarm system regularly to ensure that it is working properly. We recommend that you test your system on a monthly basis. Before testing your system, please call the Chubb Monitoring Centre to inform them that you want to perform a system test. You must provide the Monitoring Centre with your name and confidential password or pass number.
  • If your alarm system is malfunctioning, call your local Chubb Branch immediately. DO NOT ARM YOUR SYSTEM until it has been repaired. You should also inform the Chubb Monitoring Centre of the situation and ask them not to respond to alarms until you advise them that the system has been repaired.
  • Make sure you are aware of the Police False Alarm Program in your jurisdiction.
